How to restore missing apps after updating Samsung Galaxy S4 to Android 4.4.2 KitKat?

Today I have updated Android on my Samsung Galaxy S4 to version 4.4.2 Kit-Kat and after the device booted I noticed that about half of my installed applications are missing! And I freaked out!

Instantly I started looking for the solution to this problem and it’s really easy and stupid. All you need to do is simply to reboot the device. To do that simply hold the Power button and when the menu appears select the Reboot. When the phone boots all missing apps will be back.

In my case all the apps are now not in the positions I placed them so I had to re-organize them again but at least that’s not a problem and is less time consuming then finding them and installing them again.

One thing I also noticed is that I’ve got Google Drive application installed on my phone. Just another app in my bloatware folder I guess…

  1. Greetings from Florida! I’m bored to death at work so I decided to browse your blog on my iphone during lunch break. I really like the knowledge you provide here and can’t wait to take a look when I get home. I’m amazed at how fast your blog loaded on my cell phone.. I’m not even using WIFI, just 3G .. Anyways, awesome blog!

  2. Well its now late July 2014 and the android dissappearing app issue is still with us, I check for updates every morning before I leave my home wifi and still nothing. I have at least 6-8 apps dissappearing every time I need them and after a few reboots I reinstall them and following day or even few hours later they are gone again. This is most annoying as I need these apps for day to day business and the constant downloading of renewed apps is chewing into my 4g data usage which is putting me over every single month…

is there a fix for this or do we all jump ship to apple who tend to place urgency on these matters. Which is more than anyone can say for android.
We should all send our incresed phone bills to android head office for remuneration.

  6. My galaxy s4 has updated to 5.0.1 and after a reboot half of my apps have gone and most of my google apps wont work including play store. Thinking of a factory reset, any ideas out there.

    • Mine has just upgraded yesterday and it works just fine… I don’t know about factory reset but if everything else fails you can try that too..

I still don’t know how to get my facebook app back. Margaret

  8. On your home screen, try swiping up or down. That should give you your full list of apps. I have a Tab S4.
