How do you remove Picasa albums/pictures from Gallery on Samsung Galaxy S4

I have just got my Samsung Galaxy S4 and I have noticed that it has imported all of the pictures and albums from Goole Picasa to my gallery. I find that very anoying and I was looking for a way how to stop it from doing it so. Here’s how to solve it.

First check if auto data sync is enabled:
1. Go to Settings and at Connections tab select Data Usage
2. In properties enable Auto sync Data (To get the properties click on the button on the left side from your Home button on your phone at the bottom right side)

After that’s done let’s disable the Picasa
1. Go to Settings and at Accounts tab select Google and then select your Gmail account (most of you have only one, I have three and if you have more than one repeat the following step for every account)
2. On the next page disable Sync Picasa Web albums (and you can also disable Sync Google+ Photos)

That will prevent future pictures from being downloaded from Picasa to your phone, now let’s clear the current ones:
0. NOTE: If you have the phone running on latest Android (Marshmallow) please scroll down since this changed a bit so following three steps are slightly different now.
1. Go to Settings and at More tab enter Application Manager
2. Once you’re into Application Manager at the top go trough the tabs above until you reach move the tab All
3. Then and find Gallery application, click on it and then click on Clear Data button and confirm.

Now you will no longer have Picasa pictures in your Gallery on your Samsung Galaxy S4 (SGS4) phone. This guide also works on Samsung Galaxy S3 and Samsung Galaxy S5 and probably on some other Galaxy phones. If you have just bought a new Galaxy phone check out some cool accessories, chargers and cases for your phone:

26th July 2014 Update: Added a blog post on how to remove Facebook Albums from Gallery app on Samsung Galaxy S3 or S4.

27th June 2014 Update: I have added screenshots made with my phone to help you out disable Picasa on your Galaxy Phone even easier. If you phone is in other language switch it to English, then disable Picasa as descibed above in the post and then switch the language back to your preferred language. This will minimize chance of making an error.

29th September 2016 Update: Users of newer devices running on latest Android (Marshmallow) should use this guide:

What’s funny is that the Picasa images dont even show up in my gallery, until I create an message and click to attach an image to it, then all of a sudden there are all these extra galleries!
    Thanks again!! :0)

  2. Thank you so much for this! The issue was driving me mad!

  3. I HAVE SAMSUNG GALAXY Y DUOS AND SG S4, AND WAS SURPRISED TO SEE A PHOTO ON BOTH THESE PHONES WHICH I HAD NEVER CLICKED. IT WAS ANNOYING TO SEE THAT I COULD NOT DELETE THE PHOTO FROM ANY OF THESE PHONES. I EVEN DID FACTORY RESET OF SAMSUNG GALAXY DUOS AND GOT IRRITATED TO SEE THE PHOTO APPEARING AGAIN IN THE GALLARY.
I, REALLY THANK YOU FOR SOLVING MY PROBLEM IN BOTH THESE PHONES, BY FOLLOWING THE STEPS GIVEN BY YOU HOW TO DISABLE SYNC AND CLEAR DATA TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM.
    THANKS ONCE AGAIN

  4. Thank you so much! Perfect 🙂

  5. Thank you very much.

  6. thank you!!! you are genius!

  7. man thank you, you saved me

  8. Thank you so much for taking the time to post these instructions! I was going crazy trying to delete this pesky picasa content.

  9. This will not delete my other Gallery photos will it? I only want to remove the picasa pics…

    • It will remove just pictures from Picasa…

      • Although I have disabled the sync between Picassa and my phone, I just can’t seem to delete the Picassa pics from my phone. Please help!

  10. This really worked thanks soooo muchhh

  11. Thank you! Ive been trying to remove the picasa pictures for the past few months! Very helpful post

  12. Thanks a ton! It was also driving me nuts.

  13. how to delete picasa albums from samsung galaxy tab 3?

  14. I tried this several times, it didn’t work for me. I have the S4 Active, does that matter? Is there something else that I can do?

  15. Awesome instructions.. there’s some idiots out there saying to remove all from Picasa not realising that it will delete the photos altogether.. IDIOTS I TELL YA!

  16. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!!!!

  17. Many thanks for that info & for the non-complicated instructions~~excellent

  18. How do I +100 for this post? Thanks a mill!

  19. Your the man!!!! Thank you

  20. Many thanks! I’ve just switched to the S4 from iPhone so wasn’t too familiar with how things worked.
The photo thing had been bugging me – can’t thank-you enough!!!

  21. Thanks …I even called Samsung they did not know how to fix it. Found your website and it worked seamlessly

  22. Thank you it work.:-;-)

  23. I was able to complete all but the very last step to clear the current ones…Was able to go to SETTINGS, then MOR and then APPLICATIN MANAGER… However, I do not have an ALL tab inwhich to locate the Gallery and then CLEAR DATA.. Did anyone else have that issue and were you able to resolve??

    Thanks!

  24. I really wish this worked with the Galaxy 3 Tab, but it doesn’t. I will move all my photos to another account, because I really don’t want to carry them around. I guess it’s a problem of anything Google–no privacy!

But, if anyone knows how to fix this in the new Tab 8″ (software 4.2.2) please help. I came to Samsung to get away from iOS7 and am in super anxiety state because it is soooo different.

  25. Thank you SO much!

  26. Thanks for your very clear instructions; however, the photos still appear in the Picasa app on my phone.

  27. Thanks so much!

  28. Thank YOU so much! I needed this.

  29. when i go into google from accounts in settings how do i disable sync? there’s no option to disable it. when i click on ‘sync google+ photos’ or ‘sunc picassa wed albums’ it just starts syncing again??

  30. The instructions were spot on, I have a samsung galaxy S3 and you have no idea how long Ive been trying to get rid of them. I didnt even know they were in the picasa account until I bought the phone and synced it to Google. Now the challenge to delete them off my google account…

  31. I have a similar problem. When I reach the final step I don’t have the all tab to clear all.

  32. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I have had the S4 since September and this has been driving me CRAZY, i am kicking myself now for not finding this sooner… Perfect instructions….

Good call on the previous comment, now how to get those pics off of Google account…

  33. It worked great, thank you !

  34. Thank You!!!

  35. Thank you very much for that, I have a Galaxy Tab and have been trying to delete the Picasa pictures for ages, but never managed to. Marvellous.

  36. Thank you. I have learned to hate Picasa and google+. if it weren’t linked to my YouTube Channel I would delete the whole profile. I have had to dig this deep 3 times, each time I get a new phone. Thank you again.

    Mary

  37. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU….have been trying to get rid of a photo for ages!

  38. I do not have a gallery option under my account manager setting to clear it. I have followed all of the steps except the final one and my pictures are still there. Why don’t I have the gallery option on my phone?

    • Find Gallery application (it’s in All tab) click on it and then click on Clear Data button and confirm

I THNK ITS UNDER *ALL* TAB

  39. Great share. Thanks

  40. Thank you so much. I have been tryin to figure this out all morning. I appreciate you for posting the how to guide. Your awesome!

  41. Omg!! Thankyou so much it had been bugging me for sooo long!!!!

  42. OMG I was going crazy not knowing why this was not being deleted and why I could not delete this from my phone. You have been a godsend explaining how to do this step by step for us dummies that really havent a clue!! Thank you so much. I cant believe its finally gone, hooray for the internet and hooray for people like you!!! 🙂

  43. This helped indeed, but eventhough I followed all the steps it deleted all the picasa albums with also my hidden pictures. And now no matter what I do can’t get them back. 🙁

  44. This was not only driving me bonkers but I was also nervous about hitting the ‘clear data’ button fearing that it was going to delete my other pics…OMG it worked and i still have my memorable pics there! Thanks bunches for the instructions..wish there was more than a thank you i could give…LOL

  45. THANK YOU! This is perfect.. it easily walked me through and I was able to accomplish what I needed. There are so many annoying blogs out there with useless information, coming across this was refreshing. Thanks again!! 😀

  46. There’s a MUCH easier way to do it…IF you want to stop the Synching from the much-despised Picasa.
Just go to your Gallery Albums, select Menu, Content to Display….de-select “Content in Picasa”.
If Dropbox is also bugging you, de-select it also. If you don’t like the results, you can re-de-select them easily.

  47. will it still sync my pictures to the web like a backup?

  48. Thank you so much! Worked for my lg g2. 😛

  49. THANKS A ZILLION!!!!! It works, I am sooooo happy!

  50. OMG…for a minute there I thought I lost the whole Gallery app and my current photos. I must have taken your instructions a step too far and it was gone. But I reinstalled the app from “Turned Off” and voila! There were all my pics minus the Picasa albums from our last 11 vacations(…kids are grown and gone already!) Thank you so sooo much.

  51. Simple but great trick…

  52. I accept photos loaded from desktop to G+ on my smartphone. I do not shoot photos on my phone. I use a DSLR, put in desktop computer, upload to G+ album, and then these photos automatically appear in my smartphone Gallery. Where are the files stored in my phone? Can I plug my phone into a desktop computer USB port, open a phone folder on my desktop monitor and see all my G+ JPG Files stored? Does a 3mb file that I have uploaded to G+ from my desktop computer that subsequently appears in my phone Gallery – does that same file occupy 3mb of storage space in my phone?

    • Same photos from your G+ will be synced to your phone. If G+ doesn’t resize them – yes it will take same amount of space on your phone. Pictures should be stored in /DCIM folder at your phone. You could see all the pictures on your computer if you connect phone to it using USB cable and go to /DCIM folder…

  53. I have spent 2 days…..2 D A Y S ! ! ! I love you I love you I love you!!

  54. Thank you SO MUCH….

  55. many thanks!

  56. I have just got my Samsung Galaxy S4 and I have noticed that it has imported all of the pictures and albums from Goole Picasa to my gallery. I find that very anoying and I was looking for a way how to stop it from doing it so. Here’s how to solve it.

  101. On my new Galaxy s5 I go under Application Manager and there is no Gallery app. Under settings there is Gallery app but under it there is no “clear data” tab. How do I clear data?

    Great post !

  119. Thank you, thank you. I’ve been frustrated by this for ages. Managed to get rid of a whole lot of other things but just couldn’t find how to do this one. 130. THANK YOU!!!!! EXACTLY my problem too! It duplicated ALL MY PICTURES blowing up my SD card so that I have zero room to update apps, which btw I selected to so manually!!! To get thru google or youtube sign in, it won’t even let you proceed without approving picasa access! Fucking BULLSHIT! I disabled the app shortly after and got rid of that annoyance. Until last night! For some reason it started to update all this crap by itself duplicating 1000 Pictures on my phone and if I want to delete them via Google it will delete EVERYTHING on my fucking device! No option to privacy here. No option to have things customer preference! Google fucks you with going behind your back and then punishing you by deleting all your shit. I am BEYOND livid right now! Because now I have to do a factory data reset to get rid of this stupid ass album I never wanted in the first place! FINE IF you NEED to back them up online but does it have to be copied to your device?????

  131. I did all of that and it’s still there…..

  132. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! I’ve been trying to figure this out for a week!
